8 Days/7 Nights: Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai

 

Overview

 
Travel across China by train on a journey from Beijing to Xi’an and Shanghai, and partake in experiences that let you enjoy this country like never before. From the heights of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall to the iconic hutongs at street level in China’s major cities, where traditional alleyways blend with towering skyscrapers, and bicycles and e-scooters fill the streets. This is a trip packed with excitement and emotion, rich cultural and historical insights, and all manner of first-hand stories and adventures.
 

Itinerary

 
Route: Beijing (3 Nights), Xi’an (2 Nights), Shanghai (2 Nights)
 

Day 1: International Flight

 
Board a scheduled commercial flight bound for Beijing. Overnight on board the aircraft.
 

Day 2: Beijing

 
Arrive in Beijing. Transfer to the hotel and relax.
 

Day 3: Beijing

 

Buffet breakfast.

 

First, we’ll visit Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest square and the political heart of China. We’ll then explore the Forbidden City, wandering the ancient imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Summer Palace, with an optional evening experience of watching a Peking Opera performance.

 

Day 4: Beijing

 

Buffet breakfast.

 

In the morning, we’ll take an excursion to the Great Wall of China and visit Mutianyu, one of the most beautiful sections of the entire Great Wall. Lunch is included. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the 798 Art Zone, followed by a shopping trip to the Silk Market. In the evening, we’ll dine on the famous Peking Duck at one of China’s most historic restaurants.

 

Day 5: Beijing → Xi’an

 

Buffet breakfast.

 

In the morning, we’ll travel to the Temple of Heaven, a magnificent site where the Ming dynasty emperors offered sacrifices to pray for bountiful harvests. Before our visit, a tai chi master will teach us a brief introductory class to this ancient art form. Lunch is included. In the early afternoon, we’ll take a high-speed train to Xi’an, the ancient capital of China. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer directly to the hotel.

 

Day 6: Xi’an

 

Buffet breakfast.

 

In the morning, we’ll begin with a visit to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, one of China’s greatest cultural discoveries. Lunch of jiaozi (Chinese dumplings) at one of Xi’an’s most famous restaurants. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the legendary Muslim Quarter, as well as the Great Mosque and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda.

 

Day 7: Xi’an → Shanghai

 

Buffet breakfast.

 

Transfer to the airport for a flight to Shanghai.

 

Upon arrival in Shanghai, we’ll take a guided tour of Yu Garden and the Old Town (lunch included). We’ll then visit the Jade Buddha Temple and the Bund, with its spectacular views of modern Shanghai.

 

Day 8: Shanghai

 
Buffet breakfast. Today we’ll visit Zhujiajiao, a classic water town in southern China with ancient canals (lunch included).
 

Day 9: Return International Flight

 

Buffet breakfast. Transfer to the airport.

 

Depart on the international flight. End of our services.
